Tracy Residents Now Have To Pay For 911 Calls

TRACY, Calif. (CBS13) ― Tracy residents will now have to pay every time they call 9-1-1 for a medical emergency.

But there are a couple of options. Residents can pay a $48 voluntary fee for the year which allows them to call 9-1-1 as many times as necessary.

PID COMMENT:  How much sense does this make? Isn’t there a 9-1-1 tax levied on most phone bills?  If that revenue isn’t enough to fund the system, then nudge it up a bit. And start fining those people who abuse the system by calling to complain about fast food service, etc.  Hint: If you live in Tracy, California, it might be time to move.

  1. Yes most, if not all communities with 9-1-1 do leverage some kind of tax on their phone bill to help fund 9-1-1, either through a local or a state mandate. Many communities also prosecute abuse of the 9-1-1 system and make a little money off of that by levying fines.
