Ecuador says U.S. must leave Manta air base

July 30, 2008 (AP) QUITO, Ecuador – The U.S. military must stop using its only outpost in South America for anti-drug flights when Washington’s 10-year lease on the base in Ecuador expires in 2009, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday. Full Report

The article states that the US has no plans for future military bases in South America. If true, then what happened to the huge base rumored to be in Paraguay? Don’t forget that the both the Bush family and Sun Myung Moon have major property holdings in Paraguay. And, the US has re-instituted the 4th Fleet to patrol Central and South American waters. Does this sound like the US plans to pull out of South America? — PID
