Feb 17, 2008 PRISTINA (AFP) — Kosovo on Sunday declared independence from an angry and anxious Serbia, completing the conflict-strewn breakup of the former Yugoslavia. /SNIP/ But the Serbian government, backed by Russia which demanded a UN Security Council meeting, vowed to never recognise the move and several hundred protesters stoned the Belgrade diplomatic missions of the United States and European Union, the main backers of Kosovo independence.
