Feb 1, 2008 (SHREVEPORT TIMES) — Streaks of white disturbed the bright blue sky of Feb. 1, 2003, as Jerry Moncrief stepped out on his back porch. “I thought it was a comet or something — it was coming apart. There was nothing but a bright white light, like a shooting star at night.”

In northern Caddo Parish, sheriff’s Deputy John Warner was on a normal Saturday patrol between Hosston and Ida when he saw the same thing. “It kind of looked like those sparklers you had when you were a kid when the pieces come off of it.” Full Report

We could go into conspiracy theories, but instead — for today — let’s pause to remember the men and women aboard the Columbia. We pray for their families and friends as they recall that horrible day, five years ago. And we say thank-you to all in the space program who continue to risk life and limb. — PID
