U.S., landlocked Mongolia strike maritime deal

The State Dept.. isn’t as addle-brained as it may seem at first (ok, we’ll concede that the term may sometimes apply). Although Mongolia doesn’t have a navy, their flag is used by other countries to disguise the vessel’s true origin. Also note that Mongolia borders both China and Russia — schmoozing this country irritates both Hu and Vlad. — PID

WASHINGTON (AP) — Somebody should have looked at a map. The State Department — with great fanfare — signed an agreement Tuesday with landlocked Mongolia that will allow Mongolian ships to be boarded and searched if they are suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction. Full Report
